Transferring a topic with over 800 posts from one board to another, even if it's using the same database would be extremely difficult, even for seasoned administrators comfortable using SQL queries. It depends on how the two forums are set up in regards to the database structure and whether it shares the exact same users and if there are any conflicts with IDs for users, topics and posts.
Also, when you say updated the timestamps... what do you mean? Updating the timestamp of the first post to the time it was transferred to the new board is one thing, but what would the timestamps be for all of the posted replies?
You're free to do what you want with your forum, of course... but I strongly advise trying to do this. It'll cause no end of problems.
